Description Jon Nelson 2010-10-27 23:11:23 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.1)
OS: Linux

Plenty of other reports on this. See
http://dimsuz.wordpress.com/2009/04/01/klipper-updates/
and
http://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=60347
and others.

Basically, klipper has a set of default actions. However, selecting 'konqueror' tries to open firefox (and fails). Sometimes, trying 'firefox' also fails. So, I went to the configuration screen to see what the actions were, and ... there weren't any. SO I checked the config file, and it says: Number of Actions=0. How can that be? I suggest that the Actions list should *not* be empty if the default actions are in play. Perhaps a "use default actions" button would be nice to "copy" the default actions to the user's action list, or something, but otherwise this is very counter intuitive - clearly /something/ has been configured but the dialog says /nothing/ has been configured. :-(

Reproducible: Always

Actually, there is a checkbox "Enable MIME-based actions" in the Actions tab. Surely it is clear as glass for any grandmother what that is about? ;)

> "...selecting 'konqueror' tries to open firefox (and fails)....".

Sounds like the same problem in bug 261071 if you were using firefox as default browser, although I not sure what "and fails" means.

Personally, I don't think there is a bug here. "Enable MIME-based actions" is not that hard to understand, except MIME the acronym :) . Maybe tooltip should be added for that checkbox.

 >Maybe tooltip should be added for that checkbox.

I can add that. What do you think of 'Offer to open documents and URLs with their associated programs'?

This bug is for 4.5.1, not 5.15.3. so I'm marking this as resolved unmaintained. Klipper no longer has default actions anyway.
