This happens on two machines, running kubuntu 10.10.
With Nvidia potentially overstating its abilities, 'blur' is enabled by default. Then, at random times, with effects of Plasma Desktop (so it looks like), kwin crashes and recovers.

It has so far never occurred again after the effect 'blur' was disabled.

The crash can be reproduced some of the time.
