Description Alain Knaff 2010-10-23 16:44:54 UTC
Version:           2.3.0 (using KDE 4.4.2)
OS:                Linux

amarok no longer lets you change tags of tracks, with no indication why. The "with no indication why" is the actual bug here. Files are writable, and there is no other obvious reason why track details should not be editable.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Select a track in a playlist
2. Right-click, Edit Track details
3. Click on Tags
4. Click on Title (for example)

Actual Results:
All track info (such as Title, Artist, Composer...) appear grey, and changing them is not possible

Expected Results:
Track info should be editable. If there is a good reason why they couldn't be editable, amarok should pop up an error dialog with an explanation why (and how to fix it) after clicking in those grey fields.

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.32-25-generic
Compiler: cc

Please upgrade to Amarok 2.3.2 and try again. See also http://kubuntu.org/news/amarok-232-backports-ppa

After doing this, amarok doesn't start at all.

It says:

Amarok could not find any collection plugins. It is possible that Amarok is installed under the wrong prefix, please fix your installation using:
$ cd /path/to/amarok/source-code/
$ su -c "make uninstall"
$ cmake -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=`kde4-config --prefix` && su -c "make install"
$ kbuildsycoca4 --noincremental
$ amarok
More information can be found in the README file. For further assistance join us at #amarok on irc.freenode.net.

However:
1. I installed from the deb repository that you recommended, not from source. So I cannot follow the instructions outlined.
2. The README file in /usr/share/doc/amarok/ (the only one in the amarok package) doesn't contain any information about this problem (not a single mention of "collection plugins" in there)

So, after the "up"grade, the problem has become much worse.

I'm back to juk now

After restarting my session, amarok works again (and this bug is fixed...), but now unfortunately konsole's icon is gone...

Thank you for your feedback. The panel icon missing is a different bug, so I can close this one as fixed.
