Description Saulo Toledo 2010-10-19 19:14:30 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.1)
OS: Linux

I can't change my system time ruing normal user. I need use "sudo systemsettings" to do this simple task, and some linux versions do not runs this, like my netbook. Then I need change the time at terminal.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
1) Right click at widget -> Adjust date and time
2) Change the date/time and click Apply
3) See a message like "It's not possible execute/authenticate the action: 4."

Actual Results:
You see a message like "It's not possible execute/authenticate the action: 4."

Expected Results:
Simple adjust my date/time or at least ask the root password. (without password could be good too...).

The message for normal users could be better, and the system could ask root password. If the password is wrong, a message like "Your root password is wrong, I can't change the time."

For normal users the actual message is really strange. To teach old people to use computers with KDE, it's worse...

I think people using sudo could have this working without root password, too.

That kind of error message sounds like there was some error in your PolicyKit/Polkit installation. (the software related with permissions and root actions)

I can properly change the date/time here on my KDE SC 4.5.4 and 4.6beta2 installations on ArchLinux 686. When I click Apply there is a input dialog asking for the root password. After entering it, the date/time are changed properly. No other error messages appear

It is likely that your problem is related to some packaging/installation issue in your installation. Check your installation, update your packages and retry again. You may also want to ask other users using other distributions to test this.

Thanks

Now I'm running KDE 4.7 at Ubuntu (changed distribution), and I can confirm I can change date/time with normal user without problems.

At least in this KDE version do not happens at ubuntu. I will test on Debian again soon. If happens on Debian, I will open a bug report to debian distribution as a distribution's bug.
