Description Tye McQueen 2010-10-11 03:28:51 UTC
Version: 0.10.4 (using KDE 4.4.4)
OS: MS Windows

I wanted Okular to view PDF files. I downloaded and ran kdewin-installer-gui-latest.exe and selected most of the packages. After it was all installed, I launched okular giving it a PDF filename on the command line.

It reported "Could not open ..." and "Can not find a plugin that is able to handle the document being passed".

If I go to the "Open File" dialog, it displays "All supported file types" which doesn't include *.pdf files. If I scroll through the list of file types that can be displayed, PDF is not included in any of the choices.

I find no options for adding a PDF "plugin" nor a "PDF support" package that I chose not to download and install. I find no reports of "Okular on Windows doesn't support PDF" -- quite the contrary.

Launching Okular from the "Start Menu" shortcut also fails to support PDF files.

I does have "Import PostScript as PDF..." which just complains about not having the 'ps2pdf' command which hints that okular should be able to do something with PDF.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Well, failure to support PDF happens every time I launch okular. I haven't tried uninstalling and then reinstalling or installing a different version to see if I can also reproduce the problem to that extent.

1) Downloaded kdewin-installer-gui-latest.exe
2) Run it
3) Select at least okular
4) Wait for everything to download and install
5) Launch okular
6) File -> Open
7) Navigate to a directory that contains *.pdf files
8) Notice that the PDF files are not shown
9) Type "*.pdf"
10) Notice that PDF files are now shown
11) Select one
12) Get "Could not open ..." with a temporary notice of "Can not find a plugin that is able to handle the document being passed".

Actual Results:
...
8) Notice that the PDF files are not shown
...
12) Get "Could not open ..." with a temporary notice of "Can not find a plugin that is able to handle the document being passed".

Expected Results:
...
8) Notice that the PDF files /are/ shown
...
12) See the PDF file contents displayed
