driver bug, sorry :-(

try to update xserver-xorg-video-intel (to 2.12?) and mesa to >= 7.9rc2 or put

export LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1

into ~/.xprofile, then logout/in to apply that variable

for mesa 7.10 check here:
http://software.opensuse.org/search?q=mesa&baseproject=openSUSE%3A11.3&lang=de
it's on the first result page.

seems that you're not using idirect rendering, try
   LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 kwin --replace
from konsole or so.

if it works this way you need to figure how to set the variable on session start.
i frankly don't know which distro KDM variants do load ~/.xprofile and which don't - sorrry :-(
you can add it to your KDE autostart stuff nevertheless (or figure what files are interpreted on session launches of your login manager)
Comment 11 Wizter 2011-02-19 14:12:59 UTC
Thomas,

Thank you for your quick reply. This crash has been annoying me for a few days now. Worth mentioning that the composing crash problem only manifested itself when upgrading to KDE4.5 stable and then factory (kwin 4.6?). No problems in that area from KDE 3.5-4.4.

I've added your original suggested export after creating ~/.xprofile and initially did not work. It only worked after manually doing kwin --replace from a terminal. Composing now works as expected with the OpenGL type renderer.

I hope this now helps others with OpenSuSe 11.3, as it seems there are a lot of people with intel 950/960 cards which encountered the same problem.

Once again, thank you for the swift help.

LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 kwin --replace
from konsole or so.

if it works this way you need to figure how to set the variable on session start.

you can add it to your KDE autostart stuff nevertheless (or figure what files are interpreted on session launches of your login manager)

- Unusual behavior I noticed:

- Custom settings of the application:

Application: kwin (4.5.2 (KDE 4.5.2))
KDE Platform Version: 4.5.2 (KDE 4.5.2) (Compiled from sources)
Qt Version: 4.6.3
Operating System: Linux 2.6.35.1-05001-g71ea02e-dirty i686

-- Information about the crash:
- What I was doing when the application crashed:

Trying to enable compositing under kwin.

- Custom settings of the application:

Blur is disabled, lanczos filter as well (I think...), and I am trying to enable OpenGL mode. XRender works - sort of, but is dog-slow.

for mesa 7.10 check here:

it's on the first result page.

seems that you're not using idirect rendering, try
LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 kwin --replace
from konsole or so.

if it works this way you need to figure how to set the variable on session start.
i frankly don't know which distro KDM variants do load ~/.xprofile and which don't - sorrry :-(
you can add it to your KDE autostart stuff nevertheless (or figure what files are interpreted on session launches of your login manager)

Comentário 11:

Once again, thank you for the swift help.

bugzilla trerribly broken? ;-)

@clecio:
it's a bug in mesa and/or the intel driver, see comment #1 for a workaround but rather first check whether your distro has updates for mesa & the intel driver.

translate.google.com

The bugtracker language is English.
My French sucks and I've no idea whether Martin speaks French at all, so yes:
If you don't speak English and don't find some way to translate for you, that is a problem for handling bugs since nobody in charge can read your issues, sorry.
