Description Todd 2010-10-03 19:31:41 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.1)
OS: Linux

Kalzium's ability to display molecular data files is really useful. It would be nice if it used this ability to generate a single snapshot image of the molecule and provided it to dolphin to be used as a preview for that file. This would make it much easier to find the file you are looking for. This might take some processing power up-front but once it is generated it can be stored on the disk.

Reproducible: Always

It's a good idea, but it's not a bug, it's a sort of feature request.
We could develop a dolphin plugin, like it has been done for
open office documents. Etienne knows if it could be done.

Yes, it is feature request. I thought I set this report as a wishlist item. If not that was a mistake on my part.

Hi Todd

Don't worry, you are right. This is the perfect place for wishes;)

I have no idea how the dolphin preview stuff works nor if avogadro has a render engine of some sort. But it is certainly possible...
If i finde some time, i might look for a solution. It sounds definitly intresting.

@Luca: Please don't post the hole mail message. All the information is alredy here.

This was fixed/added in commit fcee55b38acf00ba36d7d61735a0281e48cd5598 my alex.

The thing is, that in order to work the package chemical-mime-data is needed.
http://downloads.sourceforge.net/chemical-mime/

This would be a packaging problem. I (etienne) have to look into it.

So this can be closed, right?
Thanks.
