Description Polar Humenn 2010-09-28 19:21:37 UTC
Version: 1.2.0 (using KDE 4.4.2)
OS: Linux

The Advanced Slideshow dialog does not appear until all the thumbnails are created for the internal list. This causes the dialog to remain blank until that is completed. However, if you have 8 thousand pictures you are out of luck, because you can wait all day, especially on a slow laptop. In some instances, KDM crashed.

Please make this "feature", somewhat optional. Do not background the process, because that takes up processing speed you probably don't want at this point.

The bottom line is, if you have a lot of pictures and slow processing speed, limited memory, you cannot even start the slide show until it goes through them all, if it doesn't crash your session.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Select an Album with 10K jpegs on a slow machine without much memory. Say, use a laptop with an Album on a large external USB diskdrive. Select Advanced SlideShow.

Actual Results:
The Advanced Slideshow frame comes up, but does not fill in.

Expected Results:
It should just come up and be ready to go. Stop generating the Thumbnails.

Work around.

Use System Settings -> Desktop -> Screen Saver. -> Banners and Pictures -> Slide Show

Point to the directory of pictures. Select options
Hit "Test"

This is not kipi slideshow, it's KDE core component.

The screen locker architecture changed with Plasma 5. The classic screen savers
are no longer supported. The 4.x series won't see any further feature
development, so this bug report won't be implemented as it doesn't apply to our
current version any more.

I want to thank you for your bug report and for helping improving the quality
of our software and I'm sorry that we were not able to provide a fix before we
retired the affected component.
