Version: 0.10.5 (using KDE 4.4.5) OS: Linux When reading a text in a foreign language a $WORD is sometimes unknown to me. My current approach is to hit alt+f2 type leo:$WORD or copy paste the word into krunner. I then get the translation in a browser window. It would be more convenient if I could just select the text as usual and there would be a menu entry for the translation in the pop up menu (the one for text/picture choice). Anyway, it is just a minor annoyance. Great software, thanks. Reproducible: Didn't try
Do you mean the "Find ... in ->" you have in e.g. Konqueror?
Kind of. However I wonder if there would be a nicer way to show the translation, than opening a complete webbrowser window. It probably depends on the service that is doing the translation, how the translation is delivered. Sorry, I am not sure what would be the best way to show that but here are some ways this is approached by other programs: The google translator plasmoid http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Google+Translator?content=113890 The BabelFish Instant Translation add for firefox https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/7004/ The way some KDE programs (e.g. Kate, Konqueror) over spelling suggestions, when automated spelling correction is activated, is also quite nice but probably not so if one wants to translate a whole text chunk.
This is already possible for online translation websites using web shortcuts, by the way.
Just my 2 cents. I was looking for a way to translate japanese words in kmail, like in thunderbird with the addon rikaichan. I was looking for different possibility, I like kiten but to have to copy/paste each world in another window is not very efficient (same as with krunner solution). Then I found that by right clicking you have an option to translate the word. It automatically detects the language and show the translation in a panel on the bottom of the mail. Perfect! KDE is really a good desktop! and then i though is it possible in okular? Unfortunately not... so I came here to open a bug and found this one. Would it be possible to implement this feature in okular (translation like in kmail). I don't know how it is doing it but perhaps it would be possible to re-use the code... Thanks
hello, Can this problem be solved again? Select a paragraph and its translation will be displayed automatically.
Now some software support automatic translation of selected words, but they are all under windows. for instance http://www.zhiyunwenxian.cn/ 。 This function is very important for researchers to read foreign paper, especially in Linux ecology.
