screenshot explanation

Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.1)
OS: Linux

some of the icons that are hidden in systray do not react after clicking an upwards arrow (a list opens) and then clicking upon one of them. These are skype, kleopatra for me. Strangely enough, some other work, eg. Printer applet, device notifier, kde wallet manager. When setting the apps(skype ie) icon to be visible(shows in horizontal all-time-visible tray, instead of the drop down list, the left click works as expected.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
have skype, kleopatra or maybe some other app's icon in hidden state (in drop down list) and try to click it.

Actual Results:
does not react (right click does, though!)

Expected Results:
should do as expected (it happens if in the "always visible tray"

please see screenshot for explanation of "terms" used

for me here, when the skype icon is hidden, clicking on it opens the skype window if it is closed, but does not close it again if open. when not hidden, it works as expected (clicking on it when the skype window is open closes the skype window).

interesting bug.

For me (with KDE 4.5.2), when Skype's icon is hidden and I try to open it by clicking on its icon, it is not clickable and it messes with the layout of hidden icons.
Comment 3 Maxime Corteel 2010-10-17 15:49:40 UTC
And the text of the icon is not in the right place (see attachment).

Skype icon's text in the wrong place
Comment 5 Mark 2010-11-26 07:52:15 UTC
update from kde 4.6beta1
some items (kwallet manager, kgpg) work (open/show/close) flawlessly on clicking either icon/text,

some (kleopatra, skype) open only when clicked on the icon, not text..

can we mark as confirmed/new? even though it's not an important bug, I agree

[Comment from a bug triager]
Could it be that KStatusNotifierItem icons can be actived on both text+icon, but standard systray icons (old FDo protocol) can only be activated when clicking on its icon ? (seems to make sense due the old FDo protocol limitations)
Regards

skype icon on notification area

There is another (probably related) bug. When hiding skype's icon manually, icon stays and replaces the notification area (little "i" in a circle, see attachment) until I click on the arrow that shows hidden icons. Then it gets to the right spot.

I'm seeing the same behavior aseigo does - clicking Skype icon opens its window, clicking again does not do anything. However, it's a little fuzzy - sometimes clicking the icon many times makes one of those clicks go through and the Skype window closes. Sometimes even opening the window doesn't work at first click, but the success rate is significantly higher than when closing the Skype window (at least on my Mandriva machine...On my Fedora one, things are much worse and it usually takes 10+ clicks to get the Skype window to show. Both machines are running 4.5.5)

Same here. I see the problem has been around for a long time. I only just now noticed because I had all the ones I used set to always show.

Also, I get this with various programs, ktorrent, kopete, klipper, etc. Killing and restarting plasma-desktop cures it momentarily.

Which version of KDE are you seeing that? Is this still valid for KDE 4.8.3?

i'm still in 4.6.5!!!!!! :-( I have to upgrade soon.

I can reproduce this with 4.10.2 with at least one program. The systray icon for the popular Microsoft Exchange gateway davmail does not respond to left or right mouse clicks when it's hidden.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Launch davmail. It appears in the system tray.
2. Right-click on system tray -> System Tray Settings -> Entries and change davmail's entry ("SWT") to "Hidden".
3. Hit OK. Davmail's systray icon is now hidden.
4. Left-click on the up arrow in the system tray to show the hidden icons. Davmail's systray icon appears in the list.
5. Double-click or right-click on davmail's systray icon.

Expected behaviour:
6. If double-clicking, the Davmail window should open. If right-clicking, a context menu should appear.

Observed behaviour:
6. Nothing happens.

Hello! Plasma 4 was replaced by Plasma 5 four years ago by the KDE community. In that time we have made great strides in stability and functionality. We are closing all Plasma 4 bugs as most of them are no longer applicable to the new frameworks Plasma 5 is built upon. If you could, please re-test with the latest version of Plasma 5, and submit a new bug to "plasmashell" if you continue to have an issue. Thank you!
