Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.1) OS: FreeBSD When my Folder View widget has its location set to Desktop using the "Show the desktop folder" option it will not show previews of image files. If you use the "Specify a folder" option image file previews work. This problem also occurs if the Desktop Activity is set to Folder View. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1) Add a Folder View Widget to the Desktop. 2) Select the "Show the desktop folder" location option. 3) Place an image file in the Desktop directory. Actual Results: No image preview of the image file is created; a generic icon is shown instead. Expected Results: A preview of the image file. To verify that the functionality works as expected when not using the "Show the Desktop Folder" location option, substitute "Select the 'Specify a folder:' location option for step 2 in the "Steps to Reproduce".
does the same thing happen in dolphin or konqueror? e.g. if you type desktop:/ into the location bar of a file manager window, do you get previews there?
I just tried desktop:/ in both dolphin & konqueror. No previews.
right, so this is not a folderview issue. it's either the desktop:/ kioslave, or something in the settings on your computer (e.g. a too-low maximum file size setting for thumbnails). can you check the thumbnail settings in Dolphin before i re-assign this to kio_desktop? thanks :)
I checked the maximum file size in Dolphin. It's the default, 5mb. The files are definitely smaller then that. Also, all the files had previews in the last version of KDE I had installed, 4.4.5.
I'm happy to report that the upgrade to 4.5.2 appears to have fixed this problem.
