Description Janet 2010-09-17 16:35:00 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.1)
OS: Linux

Since KDE SC 4.5 version of KPatience it isn't possible anymore to change the background of the card deck independently from the front design. Until now I had used the egyptian cards with the Jolly Royal card background. Please re-add this option.

Reproducible: Always

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.32-25-generic
Compiler: cc

The decision to remove choosing card back separately was not taken lightly, but in the end it was a deliberate decision that won't be reverted. We realise that some users enjoyed this functionality, but in the end that was outweighed by the benefits of a one-theme-file-per-card-deck solution. These include:

- The ability to add GetHotNewStuff support for downloading themes from the web.
- A more artist friendly card deck design process.
- A much prettier card deck selection dialog.
- The prevention of nonsensical card front/back combinations.
- The creation of a new card game library call LibKCardGame that offers better performance, fewer bugs, a more responsive UI and makes writing new card games much easier.

While some (but not all) of these could have been done while preserving the separate card backs feature, all of them would have been considerably more work and less elegant.

If you really miss a particular front/back combination, my recommendation would be that you create a new deck combining the two existing ones. The process isn't terribly difficult, requiring only some copy and paste with Inkscape and a text editor. Unfortunately the process isn't documented anywhere, but I'm working on that currently.
