Skype for Linux now allows a user (providing they have sufficient credit) to send an SMS to one or more contacts, or to manually-entered numbers.

This feature should be incorporated into Kopete (at least as a front end) to make the user experience more seamless, but importantly, to ensure that sent SMS messages are logged into the users history (for the appropriate metacontact).

Dear user, unfortunately Kopete is no longer maintained.

Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
