Description K. A. Sayeed 2010-09-14 01:03:24 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.2)
OS: Linux

1. Several IMPORTANT features which were available in the older KDE Kontact application (namely,"kaddressbook") that were packaged with Linux -> Ubuntu -> Version 9.10 are MISSING in the KDE Kontact application packaged with Linux -> Ubuntu -> Version 10.04. Some of the missing features are as follows:

1.1. The ability to categorise the address book entry (that is, categorise an entry as, for example, "manufacturer", "client", "colleague", etc.),

1.2. The ability to create custom fields.

1.3. The ability to apply changes to an address book entry without having to close the entry.

1.4. The ability to copy an address book entry and paste it as a duplicate entry in the address book for subsequent use as a template to create similar entries.

1.5. The ability to select the type of entry, such as "organization", "reverse name with Comma", etc., has been SEVERELY curtailed.

2. Many other features are missing thus rendering the current address book (namely, version 4.4.2) very INFERIOR compared to the previous version.

3. These are SERIOUS DEFICIENCIES in the product.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Just start KDE Kontact and try to find or use the aforementioned features. You will find that they do not exist in KDE -> Kontact -> kaddressbook -> version 4.4.2.

Actual Results:
1. The features are no longer available.

Expected Results:
1. The features should have been available and, even better, further enhanced in the newer version.

OS: Linux (x86_64) release 2.6.32-24-generic
Compiler: cc

Hej,

KAddressBook in 4.4 is a complete rewrite from scratch, therefor not all features of the 4.3 version made it into 4.4 in time.

Back in 4.5

Back in 4.5

Won't come back, that's how the new Akonadi based address book works.

You mean pasting in the same address book you copied it from? Hmm, true, can you file a separated bug report for this, please?

Already available in 4.4. You can select the format of the display name with the combobox in the contact editor.

Most of these issues have already been fixed in KDE-PIM 4.5. Feel free to test.

> 3. These are SERIOUS DEFICIENCIES in the product.
KAddressBook 4.4 is the first application that makes use of the new PIM access library Akonadi. This is completely new technology which still had issues in this early phase, however in 4.5 it has improved a lot.

Ciao,
