Description Shlomi Fish 2010-09-10 09:31:56 UTC
Version: SVN trunk (KDE 4) (using Devel)
OS: Linux

When I start KMail (here on Mandriva Linux Cooker with kmail-4.5.67-1mdv2011.0 and kdebase4-workspace-4.5.67-2mdv2011.0 ) I'm getting a dialog box saying:

{{{
KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now.
The error was:
Unknown resource
}}}

I should note that in order to make the Akonadi import successful, I manually removed my IMAP account section from the kmailrc file. See:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=244085

Running kmail in a new UNIX user account works fine, but naturally it's void of my mailboxes and data (and I cannot really use a completely different user).

I should note that this bug fails on the point of telling a person why it happened and what they can do about it. See:

http://discuss.joelonsoftware.com/default.asp?joel.3.734302.9

Reproducible: Always

I also get this with opensuse 11.4M1 and kde 4.6 (kmail-4.5.68svn1174542-6.2)
I'm using 64 bit.
And have tried removing all old entries for kmail and akonadi but nothing gets round it.
Comment 2 Laurent Montel 2010-09-14 15:38:58 UTC
kmail 2 ?
Comment 3 pete_herworth 2010-09-14 16:33:49 UTC
Sorry! Yes kmail 2.
Comment 4 Christophe Marin 2010-09-20 16:00:59 UTC
I can reproduce under certain conditions:

- Start Akonadi, create a mail account,
- Start KMail,

- Quit KMail
- Stop Akonadi,
- Manually remove the DB but not the settings,
- Start Akonadi,
- Start KMail.

The error dialog is then displayed.

I've just updated to kmail2 (4.5.69svn1177452-8.2) and all works now. I can't see any column headings in the folder pane though.

Will someone fix this bug already? I've ran into it again after today's upgrade. How do you ever expect laymen to use KDE and other open-source software if it breaks so badly after upgrade? And I'm a programmer for god's sake and do not know what to do.

Disappointed,

Ran into this bug today after deleting some virtuoso data (since nepomuk wouldn't start - DB was from an old version). What can I do to get kmail running again? All my email is on IMAP so I can just reload it, if that simplifies anything.

I got this Error too :-( after I changed the database for akonadi.
Can anyone help?

Hej,

it seems that all reporters have somehow manually changed something either in the config files or by removing parts of the database or configuration... Of course this will breaks things...
So please try to do it 'properly' and remove ~/.config/akonadi, ~/.local/share/akonadi ~/.kde/share/config/akonadi*, ~/.kde/share/apps/akonadi* and your ~/.kde/share/config/kmail* to start with a really clean setup.

Ciao,
Tobias

Remove all these configuration files, including the 27282-lines long kmailrc with all my settings in it? You must be freakin' kidding me! No way am I doing that! The only reason I manually removed the Akonadi IMAP account was to actually get the Akonadi import to finish (otherwise, it got stuck). In any case, this config works perfectly fine with the old pre-kmail 2 kmail, which I am using now, and KMail 2 should be able to gracefully handle it or at least forward-port the configuration. I'm reopening this bug.

After upgrading to 4.6beta2, I got my CPU taken at 100% by the Mysqld process.
So, I have removed the DB as usually adviced since the beggining of the KDE 4.x series after such upgrade.

But this time, Akonadi/KMail is unable to recreate missing things.
I believed that KDEPIM was in a better form after so long months of development.

Is there any way to get it back without removing by several years old config ?

This bug is now fixed. Look at release KDE 4.9 and https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=124111
