Version: 4.4.5 (using KDE 4.5.0) OS: Linux After the upgrade to 4.5.0 (and later 4.5.1), the spell checker in Kmail started not to underline misspelled words. Automatic spell checker is enabled under the Tools menu. In order to make it work, I have to open on each new message the Spellchecker in Setting tab, to choose the language and then to press OK. After that I see the red lines under words with incorrect spelling. However, this solves the problem with the particular message, not in general. I am using three languages on my machine -- English, French and Bulgarian. The case is with each of the them. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open new message. 2. Type in the body. Wrong words are not underlined 3. Open Settings--> Spellchecker 4. Choose language. Press OK. 5. Wrong words are underlined Actual Results: The spellchecker in Kmail starts to work for this particular new message. Expected Results: I expect the spellchecker to check while I type and to underline in red misspelled words.
I can confirm this bug . The spell checker works when one go over a misspelled word and right click. but it does not highlight the misspelled words. configuring/changing kmail ->Customize Visual Appearance->use custome color has no effect note that I am using kde4.5.1 with kmail 4.4.5 I am also using different languages French,Spanish,English changing in composer the dictionary as no effect it never highlight misspelled words. I disagree with the description in 5. Wrong words are underlined for me NO words are underlined even when misspelled I also believe Bug 248471 and Bug 248381 are the same bug as this one

The new bug will be linked to this one anyway. May be is better just to confirm that this is cross-platform related. gk

yep see bug bug 248381 "solved it for me" ------- Comment #3 From Andres Blanc 2010-09-18 15:05:17 ------- A more permanent solution than the suggested by Andrzej is going to "System Settings -> Locale -> Spell Checker" and tick "Automatic spell checking enabled by default" which is not enabled by default. Kmail seems unable to override the default system setting unless its forced to do so by following Andrzej procedure *in each mail written*. Simply disable the system wide option to confirm this.
