Description Janet 2010-09-05 00:45:21 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.0)
OS: Linux

It is not possible to manage activities in KDE SC 4.5.1 anymore when activities are assigned to desktops.

I have 5 desktops and use the activity per desktop feature. In KDE SC 4.4.x all activities had different names (Desktop 1-5). Now in SC 4.5.1 they share one name. When I change the name for one activity in the desktop settings it is changed for all activities. So each cashew button on each desktop/activity now shows the same name. That does not make any sense, as a name is used to distinguish things.

They also share one icon in the acitvity manager though they are different (wallpaper, widgets). So it is not possible to e.g. delete a specific activity.

Reproducible: Always

Expected Results:
Unique name (and icon) for each activity. Separate icon for each activity in the activity manager. No matter if the activities are assigned to the desktops or not.

when you turn on "different widgets for each desktop", those are all part of the same activity. when you create a new activity, it creates a whole new set of widget layouts for each virtual desktop. they are no independently manageable such as "delete just the one desktop 4". you can add and switch between activities which affects all virtual desktops, you can also remove items from individual desktops, and you can remove individual virtual desktops (which affects all activities as well).

Sorry, I don't understand that, too confusing, I give up. Why have different activities the same name and react as one though they are different? Since 4.5 it is not the activities that are bound to the desktops anymore but parts of one activity? Now three "layers" to care for? Too complicated for me. I just want different wallpapers, different widgets, different windows and different names for each desktop. It is confusing that the name in the cashew is the same on all desktops, I just want different names in the cashews as desktop labels. Please wishlist?

"Now three "layers" to care for?"

no, two: virtual desktops, activities. each activity spans all of your virtual desktops.

"I just want different names in the cashews as desktop labels. Please wishlist?"

it might be possible, but it would be completely specific to per-virtual-desktop-layouts .. i'll keep it in mind as we work on this area.
