To cancel writing an email, the window switcher has to be employed. I expect a Cancel/Discard functionality button, either (with confirmation) somewhere nearby the Send button or in the Actions flap. Observed in 4:4.5~20100903.1171170-1maemo1.1170522 and before.

I totally agree. I was testing the encryption of emails and suddenly realized that I sent the email with the wrong identity (with no encryption info configured). I wanted to cancel but I'd already clicked on 'Send' and the result was that Kmail-mobile hanged until I pressed Ctl+C from the terminal to shut it down. If canceling from the composer had been an option I could have gone back and change the sender identity but as it was nothing was responding anymore, leaving me with no other alternative. Agreed, but ... your issue is with cancellation of Sending email, while the original report is basically about being able to close a compositer view. Sure, you're right! I'll report a new bug later about that if I can reproduce because I do not remember all the specifics but I guess there should be a pop up dialogue saying that the user used the wrond ID in that case.
