I usually do these on a weekly basis manualy. I have pressed 'Refresh' to get latest from repositories, then selected all updates, and finally 'Apply'. After the download and installation, the Kpackage crashed. If you say "still" you imply that you are using the latest version (0.6.1), which you do not. Please try the new version and check if it "still" crashes.
0.5.4.0ubuntu4.4 is the most recent available for my distro in the Lucid PPA repository. No newer than that. gk
