Version: 4.5 (using KDE 4.5.0) OS: Linux After I enable/disable a "Desktop Effect" and click on "Apply", the system hangs and I have to kill x-server (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace) to use it. By "System hangs", I mean that system does not respond to any input even though I am able to move the mouse (cursor). This same behaviour occurs when I change Application Appearance -> Style and click Apply. I must mention here that settings are saved correctly. Reproducible: Always I'm currently on KDE 4.5.1 and this behaviour existed even on 4.5.0 but not on 4.4.4. OS: openSUSE 11.3 64 bit (KDE updated through download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Distro:/Factory/openSUSE_11.3/)
Just checked for some more examples and found that this also occurs when changing colour scheme but, for example, does not occur when changing plasma theme.

Sorry, that was the wrong paste, I wanted to say: You can break the freeze by pressing shift+alt+f12, then you press that again to reactivate desktop effects. The freeze is tracked at bug 241402.
