Description Yuri 2010-08-31 02:32:59 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.5)
OS: FreeBSD

I have i7 CPU X4, 2.8GHz and 6GB memory.

Yet it takes ~0.6 sec (very approximately) to switch tabs by clicking or Shift-Left - Shift-Right.

This slows down work. There should be no reason for tab switching to take that long on such fast machine.

Reproducible: Always

Try running Konsole with "--notransparency" and check if that makes a difference.
Comment 2 Christoph Feck 2010-08-31 02:53:53 UTC
I should add: You need to make sure no Konsole process is still running, because starting a new Konsole will share the old running instance. Maybe use xterm to kill/run the Konsole.

Win --notransparency flag konsole still runs in transparency mode. (kde-4.7.3)
Is --notransparency broken?

I think konsole became somewhat faster switching tabs over time. But still it takes ~0.7 sec. This is very slow for people who work in it and need to switch tabs frequently.

Just tried that option on arch/gentoo/debian/freebsd(with different versions of KDE SC). It works fine on all of them.

I haven't noticed the delayment of switching tabs from my observation above. With or without transparency.

And I do not have much clue. Do you run some input method? If possible, could you check the problem in some Linux distribution instead of FreeBSD? Or check it in a different machine?

With transparency turned on in kde delay is ~0.7 sec, without transparency it's much shorter, maybe ~0.2sec.

I do have ibus (with input methods) running, but methods are not turned on.

Also the card on this machine is pretty old, GeForce 9400 GT. May this be a problem?
Will try on another machine.

Hmmm, if i remember correctly, as long as ibus-daemon is running(even when the specific input method is not active), it will influence applications when user generate input through keyboard and mouse(surprise!). But it should not be the problem because I use ibus all the time. Anyway, just close ibus and give it another try.

I think my machine(including the video card) is less powerful than yours. Anyway, just check it on another machine. Thanks in advance.

So what is the latest status ?
Comment 9 Francesco Cecconi 2012-01-20 13:14:57 UTC
hi,

I haven't this issue on two machine with debian and konsole 2.7.4. The switching tab work well without latency; tested with/without transparency, no ibus.
