I use the open-anything-with-one-click-option.

To select a single file, for example to rename or delete it, i have to hover over the file and hit the small plus in the top left corner of the icon.
Dolphin should automatically select the file if I keep my mouse still over it for 1 second.

Reproducible: Didn't try
