Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.0) OS: Linux It would be really nice if the display settings module could have profiles in it for each extended monitor you plug in. An example would be: First time: Plug in second monitor "Samsung SyncMaster B2330" Configure monitor to reside to the right of your main screen at 1920x1080 adjust your main screen down 180px to match bottom pixel row (Absolute x:0 y:180) Apply and close Second time: Plug in monitor "Samsung SyncMaster B2330" KDE automatically detects a profile for this monitor Size & Orientation is set to 1920x1080, left of main screen with main screen adjusted down 180px to match bottom pixel row User is happy :) Reproducible: Didn't try
Doh, there is a typo up there... s/1920x1080, left of main screen/1920x1080, right of main screen/
Seems duplicate of Bug #183143.
As a preliminary alternative to this, it would be nice if there were a way of disabling KDE's detection of changed monitor setups. (BTW I haven't seen this automatic dialog for a long time, but since upgrading to KDE 4.10 I'm getting this dialog “monitor setup has changed” every time.) The problem that I'm having with this (maybe should go into a new bug report?) is that I do have a script for different "profiles" as described here in place, and I don't want KDE to interfere with it. (BTW I am currently running this script manually, but apparently there are ways of having it triggered by udev rules, e.g. here: http://ruedigergad.com/2012/01/28/hotplug-an-external-screen-to-your-laptop-on-linux/)
Thanks for reporting your bug. Since reporting Krandr has since been replaced by KScreen. It is available in the Plasma 4 series, and is default in Plasma 5 onwards. I hope this solves your issue. If you still have a problem after upgrading please reopen a new bug under kscreen. Thanks
