Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.0) OS: Linux At least in the English version, virtual desktos are ordered from left to right, top to bottom. Based on how I organize my work and with the new ability to quickly add new virtual desktops, I would like the ability to have them renumbered. For example, right now I use 6 desktops and they are numbered as: 1 2 3 4 5 6 If I add to more, the numbering becomes: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 However, I would like to have them numbered from top to bottom, then left to right, as follows: 1 3 5 2 4 6 Then going to 1 3 5 7 2 4 6 8 In my mind, that numbering makes a lot more sense. This would be nice, yes. And what I miss VERY MUCH ist the ability to exchange desktops. I am currently re-organizing my desktops, and remove two of them. So the layout would change from: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 to: 1 2 3 5 4 7 So I remove 6 and 8, but I also have to exchange 4 and 5. In my case it's just a matter of moving some windows around, but only because I just removed all plasma stuff I had configured (hunting a plama bug). And moving plasmoids to other desktops (I have different activities per desktop) it not possible AFAIK. The reason for me wantnig this is that #1 is for local admin stuff, and #5 for remote administration of servers with NX, rdesktop and such. I like those two admin desktops to be besides themselves and got used to it. This should be only a matter of exchanging some numbers in some files in .kde4/share/config/, but maybe it's hard to change this while KDE is runnung.

KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5, or is no longer applicable. I appreciate the update. This feature has not been implemented in Plasma 5. Instead of closing it, you should move it to Plasma 5 since it is still applicable.
