Description geoff 2010-08-27 05:38:55 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.0)
OS: Linux

In some circumstances, it is possible to get a Dolphin mouseover preview to cover the Panel. Once the mouse is moved away from the filename, and the preview disappears, the panel looks normal. However, when the mouse is moved to cause another mouseover preview, the location where the previous preview overlapped the Panel becomes corrupted with a single colour. Clicking on the Plasma desktop, or otherwise causing the Panel to be redrawn fixes the rendering, however, depending on what windows are being displayed, this may take a few clicks.

The attached screenshots show the sequence:

1. The initial mouseover preview which covers the Panel.
2. The mouse has moved to the right to cause the preview to disappear. The Panel looks OK here.
3. The mouse has moved up to cause another preview to be displayed. The Panel gets overwritten with a green colour where the initial preview overlapped the Panel.

Unfortunately, the screenshots don't show the mouse pointer. It seems that KSnapshot doesn't capture that. In Screenshot 2, just imagine that the mouse has moved to the right of, and horizontally in line with, the 'UbuntuVideo' filename.

This is with KDE 4.5.0 from openSUSE KDE Factory.

On reproducability, it happens every time that the preview covers the Panel. However, the preview doesn't cover the Panel on every occasion - sometimes the rendering is above the Panel, sometimes it covers it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. In Dolphin, hover the mouse over a file close to the Panel.
2. When the preview covers the panel, move the mouse to the right (not up or down) away from the filename, to make the preview disappear.
3. Then move the mouse up to another filename to trigger another mouseover preview.

Actual Results:
1. At Step 2, the Panel looks normal.
2. At Step 3, the Panel gets corrupted with a colour.

Expected Results:
The Panel rendering should not become corrupted.

This is clearly a Xorg bug, I was able to write a xlib-only testcas (as I was asked for), but then nothing happend.
