Cancelling the sort of the inbox probably coincided with the automatic download of a rogue email - one sent to me by a friend - "a multi-part message in MIME format" with a page of html from Salon magazine which begins:

<http://sacdcad02.salon.com/RealMedia/ads/click_lx.ads/www.salonmagazine.com/entertainment/section.html/1405208420/TopLeft/default/empty.gif/6564454247456e444e41344142573257>

Heather Havrilesky

Once I had deleted that message from my 'Mail' folder, Kontact ceased crashing.

I think this probably isn't a bug.
