Description vince.barwinski 2010-08-24 15:34:47 UTC
Version: 1.4.2pre4 (using KDE 4.2.2)
OS: Linux

Kalzium when displaying spectra of elements cannot display their spectra in visible light, only infra red. I try to adjust the maximum and minimum wavelengths to visible range, say 400 nanometres to 700 nanometres, but the program just does not accept these legitimate values. It only accepts ones in the range of several thousands of nanometres, which is in the range of Infra red.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Click on an element from periodic table, then select "spectrum" from the options on the left, choose spectrum. This will be then displayed but not in visible spectrum. Trying to change the values of maximum and minimum wavelength to the visible light range of 400 to 700 nanometres will not be accepted.

Actual Results:
Unable to view spectrum of elements in visible light range of 400 to 700 nanometres

Expected Results:
Should be able to see spectra of elements in visible light range. Spectral lines should be given appropriate colours, eg double yellow sodium emission line should be in yellow. This is what happened in previous versions

OS: Linux (i686) release 2.6.32-24-generic-pae
Compiler: cc
Unable to view spectrum of elements in visible light range of 400 to 700 nanometres, unlike in previous versions. These values just not accepted

Hi vince

Thanks for your report. The issue is, that the wrong units are shown.
The spectrumdata is now in angstrom. So the visible range is 4000Å to 7000Å.
I fixed the units and the colors in trunk. So in 4.6 it will be fine;)
When i find some time i'll fix the 4.5 branch.

Etienne

Hi Etienne

Thanks very much for the reply. I appreciate it.

I did have a feeling that perhaps the units were mixed up between angstroms
and nanometres. I just purchased a new ACER laptop and switched from Mepis 7
on my old old Acer Travelmate to Ubuntu 10.04.1 on my new one.

Keep up the work on this excellent program.

Cheers
Vince

This bug can be closed. The patch is already in trunk.
