Created attachment 50787 [details] See what I mean? :) Version: 0.9 (using KDE 4.5.0) OS: Linux If I look at it closely for a while, I can see that this new monochrome icon is supposed to represent an Ethernet jack and an Ethernet cord with a tiny plug facing upwards, 90 degrees away from the proper angle for insertion. However, when I look at the icon, what I really see is a black-and-white cartoon of an old woman wearing a hat. You can see her nose, and little eyeballs, or maybe that's her white hair slightly covering her eyes in a cartoony way. She has hair on the side of her head covering her ears, and you can see her neck extending down from her head. You might think this sounds preposterous, but I'd bet dollars to donuts that I'm not the only person who sees this, or some kind of face with a hat. I hate to be overly critical, but every release of KNetworkManager has had a very strange looking Ethernet icon, going back to 0.6 at least. Each release has tried with a new icon, but each one just looks weird or silly. This is the strangest one yet. Quite honestly, a simple "E" would be more helpful and descriptive than these weird-looking icons. Remember that many people won't even recognize an Ethernet jack or plug. Three other suggestions I have are: * an icon of a plug and cord extending from a jack, shown from above at around a 45-degree angle, also rotated horizontally around 45 degrees * the old-fashioned-but-recognizable icon of two computer screens linked by a wire, with flashing activity indicators optional * a horizontal line with arrows on each end Whatever you do, this old-lady-with-a-hat icon has got to go. :) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Log in to KDE. 2. Connect to Ethernet. 3. Look at icon. Actual Results: "What's that icon? It looks like an old lady...hmm, let's right-click it...oh, it's the network icon...is she the mascot or something? Oh, look...if I squint at it I can sort of make out an Ethernet plug...weird..." Expected Results: "Now that's got to be the Ethernet icon...yep." See attachment for example.
