Description Fest 2010-08-18 20:57:42 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.5.0)
OS: Linux

There is 3 option to open links in akregator right now: open in tab, in background and in external browser.

I prefer to open links in external browser, and it's pretty annoying that after clicking, focus immediately switch to browser. Especially when you want to open few rss's to read them in browser. You'll need to switch back to akregator after every link click.

So i'm asking about option "open silently(without switching to) in external browser".

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set to open links in external browser.
2. Click on link.

Actual Results:
Focus switched to browser.

Expected Results:
To be able to stay in akregator and links opened silently in background browser.

Same here (KDE 4.10), and I would like to list a few reasons why this is important for akregator:

1. The built-in browser is adequate but inferior to popular browsers like FF, Chromium etc. ; it's slower, and doesn't support add-ons like Adblock.
2. Choosing "Open in background tab" is exactly the same as "Open in tab" i.e. the new tab gains focus. So "background" has no meaning even for the built-in browser.
3. It is far more convenient to open the pages you are interested in in the background and then go read them one by one in your browser, instead of wrestling each time with akregator to take back focus.
4. If you read a lot of RSS everyday, this annoyance is enough to consider switching to an alternative.

After some research it seems to me that this is not akregator's fault. e.g. in firefox you can get the expected behavior by setting "browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground" to "true".

The built-in browser's "open in background" issue I mentioned previously is obviously a separate issue, unrelated to this bug report.

Works fine here. The behaviour depends on the browser.

- It works fine with Firefox after following kabamaru's advice,
- There's an option in rekonq
- Also works in opera

So far, only chromium and konqueror seem to fail.

For the failing browsers, you can work around this by adding a kwin rule (Right click on the title bar / More Actions / Special Application Settings / 'Appearance & Fixes' tab / check the 'Focus stealing prevention' box / Force / High
