Description Karin 2010-08-18 20:26:05 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.2)
OS: Linux

From time to time my keyboard stops working correctly when using a GNOME-program within KDE.

There are three ways how it became noticeable:
1. The program reacts on most key inputs but leaves some out -> there are missing letters in a text. It's not like it would ignore some special keys but ignore them randomly from time to time.
2. The program puts out garbage as text -> different keys may put out something like "orrrrrrkrrr" or "pq all q pqpl"
3. The program doesn't react on keys at all -> you can only use the mouse

The problem always occurred within the affected problem but not on other running programs. A restart of the program solved the problem temporarily.

I experienced the problem frequently when my CPU was working to full capacity but sometimes also when it didn't work to full capacity. It happened in Firefox 3.x, in Pidgin 2.6x and in Evolution 2.28.3. As the problem never occurred in KDE programs such as Kopete which I started using instead of Pidgin I assume it is a problem which concerns only GNOME programs.

I first noticed the keyboard problem when switching from Ubuntu 9.10 to Kubuntu 10.04. In Ubuntu - on the same netbook - I never had that problem although I used Firefox and Pidgin frequently, too.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
Make the CPU working to full capacity and type something in a GNOME-program such as Firefox or Pidgin. It may happen more likely when typing quickly but that's rather an impression than a detection.

Actual Results:
Either:
- some letters are left out or
- different letters are printed out than typed in or
- no letters are printed out

Expected Results:
print what is typed in by keyboard

Is this still a problem for the reporter in the recent version of KDE?
Comment 2 Karin 2011-09-25 17:11:01 UTC
I can't say if this would still be a problem since I'm not using KDE on my notebook anymore. However, on my desktop computer, which uses the recent version of KDE, the problem doesn't occur.
