Description hochiminh 2010-08-17 14:55:01 UTC
Application: kaffeine-xbu (1.0 1.1.19)
KDE Platform Version: 4.4.4 (KDE 4.4.4) "release 2"
Qt Version: 4.6.3
Operating System: Linux 2.6.34-12-desktop i686
Distribution: "openSUSE 11.3 (i586)"

-- Information about the crash:
I have tried several times to open different video files with a Matroska container in High-Definition, every time causing Kaffeine to crash. Note that the video files are NOT on a DVD medium, but on my HDD, which is not the case with the other probable duplicate bug reports. (at the bottom)

Further results of experimenting:
1- The crash does NOT happen when Kaffeine opens .mkv files with the free Xvid codec. Only, as already stated, when playing H264-compressed HD .mkv files. I haven't tried files compressed with Theora.
2- The crash does NOT occur when playing the same files (H264-compressed, .mkv) with xine-ui. This leads me to the conclusion, which may be wrong, that the problem is NOT related to xine, but only to its Kaffeine-frontend.

The crash can be reproduced every time.

New crash information added by DrKonqi

Today some additional information to the bug.

I see it has been closed, but I have reasons to believe this crash is NOT caused by xine, but by kaffeine. Those reasons include:

1 After opening a 480p mkv file compressed with Theora, kaffeine does NOT crash. But
2 After opening the same HD H264 files on another PC, using Totem (Gnome) with Xine as a backend, the crash does NOT occur.
3 Aditionally, I tried opening mkv files, compressed with the H264 codec that are of lower resolution, aka lower than 480p, but Kaffeine crashes again.

From the test cases above I can sumarise that the bug is a problem related to Kaffeine, NOT to xine-lib and therefore the bug report should be reopened.
