Version: 4.5 (using KDE 4.5.0) OS: Linux Switching to KDE 4.5, phonon always disables my sound device: 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801I (ICH9 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03) - I can't hear any sound in KDE apps. - In Systemsettings in the Phonon section the device is always grayed out. - Therefore no sound in e.g. Amarok et. al. BUT: * Sound worked perfectly in KDE 4.4.5. * GTK apps (like audacious) play sound crystal clear. * Sound in Skype (Qt) works perfectly. * ... and although KDE does not recognize my sound card, KMix adjusts volume just fine! E.g. playing something in VLC I can adjust volume with the help of KMix. I checked logs and Google but don't have any clue where to look at. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Just updated to KDE 4.5 and sound is broken. Expected Results: Sound should work as in KDE 4.4.5
I can't reproduce this here with Kubuntu. Which Phonon backend do you use and do you use Pulseaudio?
I'm not currently at the machine, but I don't use pulseaudio. Jack is present, yes. I tried to remove jack, but this didn't helped. I installed KDE 4.5 on second machine as well, but there are no sound problems at all. However, what me really puzzles is, that right in the KDE 4.5 session, any non-KDE app just works really fine and I can even set volume control with KMix. To me it seems that for any reasons during startup some checks KDE fail and from that point on the sound card is irreversible marked as disabled. I checked startup logs but can't find any clue.
Well, phonon is not working for you, but again, I can't reproduce this here at all. Please remove the $HOME/.kde/share/config/phonondevicesrc as well as the files libphonon.conf and Phonon-Xine.xine.conf in $HOME/.config/kde.org/ and restart KDE.
Ah. Merci. That did it. Amarok is playing. So it has been some misconfiguration which worked all the way from KDE 4.x (dunno) up to KDE 4.4.5, but failed on KDE 4.5. So setting this to FIXED. I assume this complies to Bugtracker policies.
