When searching for POIs, for example for ‘ATM, City name’ to find all the ATMs in a city, it would be useful if the search results were shown on the current map view (e.g., as red pins or dots).
Perhaps a check box under the search results saying ‘Display results on map’?

Yes, could/should be the default behavior even without a checkbox, I'd say.

NavigationWidget: hold a document for search results
This has 3 parts:
* runner manager doesn't return a model but a vector of placemarks
* search results are appended in MarbleModel treeModel
* the placemarks are displayed on the map automatically
