Description Sabine Faure 2010-08-11 22:56:36 UTC
Version: unspecified (using Devel)
OS: Linux

When the user clicks on buttons there is no animation showing that the button has been successfully clicked atm.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
- Launch Kmail-mobile on a N900
- Click on the 'Write new Email' button from the main window

Actual Results:
- Nothing happens for a couple of seconds
- after that there is a Kontact Mobile screen displayed and then the composer appears

Expected Results:
I think it would be better if a small animation showed the user that his click worked so that he would not be tempted to click several time.

There is no button animation in kab-mobile either and though I have not tested it yet there is a good chance that this applies to Korg-mobile as well.

N900 packages, svn rev 1159743

N900 Tag 20100820-1 (and previously):
In many cases there is a small animation, but not on all buttons.
The animation is not visible enough.

Especially in times where the device does not react fast enough,
this is a bad experience for users. As he or she does not know if
the click has been accepted or not. Regular n900 applictions usually
are better in this regard.

I'm just waiting the graphics to improve this.

Cheers,

Artur: Graphics? You mean for the selection.
Currently anything that clearly marks a click would be helpful.

@Bernhard: exactly, the graphics for the selection like a "pressed" button image for example. Do you have any other idea in mind for this? I know a few tricks but they are usually "developer" (aka not beautiful ui-wise) tricks :P
Comment 6 Bernhard E. Reiter 2010-09-03 12:19:41 UTC
@Artur: There are several ways to do this without more expensive animations
or graphics. E.g. just switching the color or the a bar.

This already was improved a lot for the menus and some of the buttons
in recent versions. Right now observed on 20100827.1170248-1maemo2,
but it was there before I think.

But not for all situations, e.g. the window switch button and the
emails in the email list do not have the feedback yet.

SVN commit 1172258 by asouza:

Provide some feedback on buttons of "type 2"

Instead of not providing any feedback at all, provide some feedback.
Now, I am waiting the feedback from designers to prettify this.

Going to look into other kind of "buttons" now: the ones that are only
images, like the task switcher and the ones in the list of emails. IMHO
the task switcher should remain as it is right now, because it follows
the look&feel of the other Maemo5 applications.

Confirm that for button-buttons there is some feedback in version 4:4.5~20100921.1177779-1maemo1.1177763 (horizontally mirrored image of the "unclicked" button).

Is it difficult to modify that image a bit (e.g. keep the shadow or make the shadow fall inside the button or so)?

In general this version feels so much better, but I think there are some elements left that do not give feedback. I'd like to figure out which ones, will then open separate issue and close this one.
Comment 10 Sabine Faure 2010-09-23 21:12:23 UTC
It is corrected now.

The user can see the 'Write new email' button being pressed after he clicks on it so I am verifying this bug.
