Example

Version: 3.7 (using KDE 4.4.95)
OS: Linux

Previously kmix had small window size and now it was increased to excessive sizes. Why was it necessary to increase its window on half a screen? Where is a profit?

Reproducible: Always

I have audigy2 soundcard with lots of controls. Opening kmix window results in very wide window that overlaps screen edges even on my 1920x1200 px monitor. I notice that controls in kmix are much more wider than in KDE SC 4.4 because control descriptions are no longer oriented verticaly. So for example "Audigy Analog/Digital Input Jack" takes really lots of space, though it is broken to the three lines.

I am not however sure what to propose to improve the situation. Only this comes to my mind:

1) Enable vertical descriptions
2) Have option to adjust text size

And the scale on the sliders have become strange
Comment 3 Christian Esken 2010-08-04 23:55:07 UTC
KMix had some bad layout issues, which were resolved by a patch I am still very thankful for. I agree that the current spacing is way too big, and it will be reduced again in upcoming versions.

I don't understand comment #2 on the slider scales (is scale = tickmarks). Please explain waht is strange (+ screenshot, if possible before and after).
Comment 4 Alexander 2010-08-05 10:46:04 UTC
(In reply to comment #3)
Nothing to explain. With a minimum height of kmail window, the tick marks disposition becomes very small. A little more and they will transform to one big mark :) Also, you can see this on the first screenshot.

Regards.
Comment 5 Christian Esken 2010-08-20 17:38:25 UTC
I think I cannot do too much about the tickmarks disposition, as there are already very few tickmarks (usually 11). If 11 tickmarks are too close to be usable, I would simply advise to switch them off.

Technically the tickmarks depend on the page step, and that is always 10% of the range in KMix.

Size is reduced again.

Currently this is in the SVN branch /branches/work/kmix
SVN Revision 1166029

I'll mark this fixed after importing the code to trunk again.

Even the window that pops up by the system tray is far larger and longer than the past.
On a netbook this can be a problem.
Comment 9 Christian Esken 2010-12-07 21:44:49 UTC
Reintegrated into trunk. Fixed for KDE4.6.
