Description Unknown 2010-07-18 13:02:37 UTC
Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.0)
OS: Linux

Using Kubuntu 10.04
xserver-xorg-video-radeon 1:6.12.99+git20091125.0061c4db-0ubuntu1

In systemsettings, the Display Brightness Up and Down keys are correctly mapped to the corresponding actions (in systemsettings -> Keyboard & Mouse -> Global Keyboard Shortcuts; component: KDE Daemon).
When using PowerDevil or the brightness slider in the corresponding Plasma applet the brightness can be controlled.

However, the display brightness does not respond to the keys.

xev correctly recognizes the buttons as XF86MonBrightnessDown and XF86MonBrightnessUp.

In System Settings -> Keyboard & Mouse the display brightness keys are correctly recognized as brightness up and down when clicking "Custom key" for a random action and pressing those buttons.

This means that X11 and Qt do know that the buttons are pressed.

Probably the bug is in KDE, then?

Btw, this is a regression from Kubuntu 9.10.

At this moment when pressing the monitor brightness up or down key, KDE's monitor brightness OSD pops up, but the brightness does not change (display does not become brighter or less bright; the keys are assigned properly; I can control the brightness using the plasma PowerDevil applet)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Press Brightness Up or Down key

Actual Results:
The screen brightness OSD pops up but screen brightness does not change

Expected Results:
The Brightness is adjusted

I experience the same things in KDE SC 4.5.1 with intel drivers 2.12 (945GME) on Arch Linux. Although prior to 4.5, I had to use xbacklight & xbindkeys to change the screen brightness with the keyboard.

PS: Bug 245463 is a duplicate

I experience same problem:
Kubuntu 10.10, KDE 4.5.1 + nvidia GT330.
Using slider in power devil works 100% ok, while pressing a hot key only OSD pop up but no change in brightness happens.

Same problem for Me, i use Kubuntu 10.10, with Platform Version 4.5.1 (KDE 4.5.1). Function keys are correctly mapped and when i try to change the brightness, the osd will compare but no change on the level. To change the brightness i can use the power applet.

I use a Samsung N150 Plus netbook, with Intel Pineview video card.
intel(0): Integrated Graphics Chipset: Intel(R) Pineview GM
intel(0): Chipset: "Pineview GM"

The driver is this:
LoadModule: "intel"
Loading /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers/intel_drv.so
Module intel: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
compiled for 1.9.0, module version = 2.12.0
Module class: X.Org Video Driver
ABI class: X.Org Video Driver, version 8.0

In attachment the my Xorg log file.
