Description Torsten Martin 2010-07-11 20:27:46 UTC
Version: unspecified (using Devel)
OS: Linux

configuring "keyboard & mouse" in systemsettings make all global shortcuts stop working. I localized the problem in the file ~/.kde4/share/config/kcminputrc. deleting this file makes global shortcuts working again.

This bug occurred on a fresh arch linux install, KDE 4.4.5

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. go to systemsettings -> keyboard & mouse
2. configure your keyboard (e.g. "enable numlock: always")
3. save changes
4. log out
5. log in again

Actual Results:
global shortcuts and media keys have stopped working

Expected Results:
global shortcuts should still work

following steps fix the problem (for the moment):
1. $ rm ~/.kde4/share/config/kcminputrc
2. log out
3. log in again.

So this bug must occur while writing or parsing this config file.

(I have set kde to the german language, so please excuse me if some of my translations of the mentioned gui elements are not right)

Not sure why this would happen, but just in case could you please attach your kcminputrc file when global shortcuts don't work?
Comment 2 Andriy Rysin 2010-08-07 15:34:52 UTC
Need a kcminputrc file

I can't see how this file would cause problems. Also I just tried it here on OpenSUSE 11.3 (although KDE 4.4.4) and it shortcuts work just fine after re-login. Also tried it on KDE 4.5rc and it's fine as well.

I wasn't able to reproduce this bug on another user account when I tried today, so it seems that this bug is not only caused by this single file.

I partly moved the current kde-configuration of the buggy account from a former gentoo installation, maybe there are some incompatibilities to arch linux?

I will further inspect this next week. Can you give me a clue which configuration files mess with the global shortcuts and therefor I should take a closer look at?

I don't know that area too good, but I'd say kglobalshortcutsrc is the file that controls global shortcuts.
