Package: k3b
Version: 2.0.0-1
Severity: normal

The drive is an LG BH10. It would be nice if k3b can be patched so that the
actual disc capacity is 3.5 TiB. I won't hold my breath though. :-)

K3b's media info reports:

Type: BD-R Sequential (SRM)

4.0x (17982 KB/s)
6.0x (26973 KB/s)
8.0x (35964 KB/s)

Repeatedly closing and relaunching k3b also gives:

Capacity: 123032:55:03 min (1.0 TiB)
Capacity: 00:00:00 min (0 B)

Peter,

Thanks for your report, this is an upstream issue as there is little Debian can do to patch. I have forwarded your report upstream, but please feel free to include any further comments with the upstream report.

Thanks,
Mark

The Debian team values users reports, but we are busy, and so we
kindly ask you to access the upstream support facilities:

There is a user mailing list which maybe used to get support:
http://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/k3b-user

To post a message to all the list members, send email to
k3b-user@lists.sourceforge.net.

If you know that the bug you want to report is in the "upstream"
code then please check/ file against the KDE Bug tracking system:
https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=k3b

You can also report bugs directly upstream using the K3b Help:Report Bug
menu entry.

If you feel that the bug is one that other Debian users should
know about then you are welcome to file a report in the Debian BTS
as well. Please keep in mind, however, that managing bug reports
is part of the maintainers' workload.

As a minimum we ask that you Cc: k3b-user@lists.sourceforge.net any
reports you file in the Debian Bug Tracking system so that upstream
are aware of the issue you are reporting.
Comment 2 Martin Horsley 2010-07-07 19:30:30 UTC
Hi,

I have the exact same drive as described above, exhibiting similar random size reports. Output from "dvd+rw-mediainfo /dev/sr0" is as above.

I am using openSuSE 11.3 RC2 x86_64 (KDE 4.4.4). I've tried the packman K3b (2.0.0-0.pm.1.9-x96_64) package and SVN 1147231.

If there is any further information I can provide please let me know.

Thanks, Martin.

patch for LG BH10

LG BH10 has probably buggy firmware - try this patch k3b_lgbh10.patch (this is patch for svn sources but it should work also in 'release' version 2.0.1)
Comment 4 Peter Karbaliotis 2010-10-24 03:44:03 UTC
The patch above worked for me.
Comment 5 Ar 2011-01-21 21:34:03 UTC
Exact same issue found in a different model from the same manufacturer - LG WH10LS30 - updated to the latest available firmware.
Hoping the patch can be incorporated to the next stable or bug-fix K3b release.

The bluray burn seems to be working OK though, even if the reported disk capacity is useless.
Comment 6 Ar 2011-01-21 21:36:08 UTC
ps. not sure it matters, but this is with memorex BD-R 4X media (BTW - k3b also seems to wrongly report the media speed, which shows up as 8X capable in "Media Info")
