This is a duplicate of bug #226409, but should be fixed... Seems there are still ways to reproduce this crash. However, I cannot reproduce. Anyone else?
i updated to kate 3.4.5 with the following packages updates: kdelibs5-data4 libplasma3 kdelibs5 kdelibs5-dbg kdelibs-bin all extended with the following package name: ...:4.4.5-0ubuntu1~lucid1~ppa1 the same procedure find the same crash; see kate-20100703.kcrash

i realized at a later point, that there is a whole update of KDE 4.4.5; i installed it; but no change; kate crashed again
