Description Robin Pedersen 2010-06-25 13:43:44 UTC
Version: 0.10 (using KDE 4.4.4)
OS: Linux

In `/etc/cups/client.conf`, I have `ServerName` set to an IP address on the local network, where a CUPS server is running and have printers configured. For most applications, this is sufficient and I can print just like if the printers where configured locally.

When I tr to print with okular, I get the print dialog, and I am able to select among the printers configured on the remote server. However, when I try to actually print, I get this error message:

Could not print the document. Please report to bugs.kde.org

The bug has existed since at least KDE SC 4.1

Reproducible: Didn't try

Can you confirm if this is just an issue with Okular when printing pdf or ps files, or is it a general KDE wide problem (e.g. text files with Kate)?

Can you run okular from the command line, you should see the lpr print command printed on the terminal, could you copy-n-paste that here?

This should work, the Arch Cups package does force the install of the Cups version of lpr, so any print jobs sent to lpr (as okular does) should then be passed on to Cups and printed as normal.

I assume the error message comes up after pressing OK in the print dialog? If so it implies the execution of the lpr command by Okular has failed and the print file is not even making it to Cups. I'm wondering if there's some issue with the job parameters.

I can confirm that printing works in other KDE apps.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to try the command line, as I have gone on vacation, and will not be at work for the next three weeks.

You are right that the error message comes after clicking OK.

OK, please post when you get back. Thanks!

The user did not answer back, so resolving as invalid

Robin, if you can still reproduce this in newer KDE/Okular releases please reopen the bug and provide the requested information.

It actually started working after an upgrade some time ago.
