Description Hannes Nagel 2010-06-19 23:48:11 UTC
Version: 1.13.3 (using KDE 4.4.4)
OS: Linux

(This is very probably of a double of Bug 202071, however since it is quite possibly dangerous and easy to fix at the same time I just open a new one. Read on, it is a bit more detailed than 202071. Also, in 229486 it says it is resolved which it is not for kmail 1.13.3/4.4.4 in Gentoo. The other doubles of this bug are also before my version, so I suppose, it is not really resolved.)

Select a range of messages, delete it. The GUI shows now, that some message is selected (which typically is at the border of where the selection range has been). It is however not really the selected message in all cases. When you select a new range with this (seemingly) selected message the new range is not what it is supposed to be, but starts at a different message.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Select message A. Hold shift and select message B. Now a range of messages is selected. Delete them by hitting the DEL key. Let's call the message that gets highlighted now C. (C usually is at the former position of A by the way.)
Hold the shift key and select a message D.

Actual Results:
A Range starting at the mail being just one line below or above of the former position of B and ending at D is selected. (The below/above is dependent on the new ending point point being below/above the start of the range.)

Expected Results:
A Range starting at C going to D would be selected.

Please notice me, if you need more information.

For me it's not regular but I have exactly the same problem.
I loose many time important message with this kind of problem, selection is changing by itself when holding the Shift Key Deleting and make a new selection of message in the message list.

Thank you for taking the time to file a bug report.

KMail2 was released in 2011, and the entire code base went through significant changes. We are currently in the process of porting to Qt5 and KF5. It is unlikely that these bugs are still valid in KMail2.

We welcome you to try out KMail 2 with the KDE 4.14 release and give your feedback.
