Hhm it seems to crash in QT. What versions of QT and XFree are you using? 
Are you using font anti aliasing and does is also crash with this feature 
disabled?

Would it possible to send me a mails that causes the problem? At least the 
Japanese mails I have are rendered correctely even when in iso-2022­jp 
encoding.
