A crash report for Amarok continually crashing on starting Amarok..

I start amarok 2 in sidux distro and it's continually crashes.

I deleted the hidden directory of amarok and apt-get remove amarok --purge then re-installed to see if that fixes the problem but I still have the same issue..

I installed the phonon-dbg file to get a crash report..

This has been fixed in the phonon-backend-xine since quite some time, please check with your distribution to get the latest packages.

Comment 4 Myriam Schweingruber 2010-06-20 15:34:20 UTC
Please try removing ~/.config/kde.org/Phonon-Xine.xine.conf, maybe this solves the issue. If not, then this is probably an upstream bug in Xine
Comment 5 Dre 2010-06-20 23:11:22 UTC
I moved ~/.config/kde.org/Phonon-Xine.xine.conf to ~/.config/kde.org/Phonon-Xine.xine.conf.old & I've done a dist-upgrade to latest debian sync with their repositories and rebooted ..

Still Amarok crashes on starting it up.

See new crash report..

Dre, please do NOT add alias to bug reports, it's use is not to add your name but for triaging.
Comment 7 Dre 2010-06-22 13:47:32 UTC
Hi Myriam,

Thx for the information on NOT using aliases ..

My question is where do I take the phonon-xine issue that maybe causing the continual crashing of amarok ?

Kind Regards

Andrei

The developers have been notified, but it might well be an upstream problem in libxine. Feel free to report this upstream at http://bugs.xine-project.org and give a link back here.

You should also get in touch with your distribution, since this seems to be the only libxine version causing this problem, I can't reproduce this here at all, using KDE SC 4.5 beta 2 on Kubuntu 10.04.
Comment 10 Bernd Brandstetter 2010-07-10 13:29:52 UTC
Hi,

I had the same Amarok crashes after updating xine-lib some 2 weeks ago.
In my case the problem was that the previous xine libraries were still installed in parallel, i.e. there were 2 versions present:

/usr/lib/libxine.so.1.24
/usr/lib/libxine.so.1.28
/usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.24/*
/usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.28/*

After removing the older 1.24 library and plugins the crashes were gone and Amarok runs fine again :-)

Regards,
Bernd

Comment 12 Dre 2010-07-11 08:20:17 UTC
Hi Myriam,

How do I go about removing in sidux these libraries & plugins for libxine.so.1.23.0 ?

I'm not sure what I do, ie do I remove them by hand manually or another method ?

tia

Dre :)

Eureka !!!

The /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.23/ /usr/lib/xine/plugins/1.23-old

and deletion of rm /usr/lib/libxine.so.1.23.0

Has at last allowed Amarok to work !!

Many thanks for all your help it's very much appreciated
