- What I was doing when the application crashed:

I managed to run out of disk space whilst backing up my dvds when plasma crashed.
I made some space on the disk by deleting half-completed stuff and alt-sysrq-k'd the X server. I then had around 20GB of space to play with.
When it come back, plasma continued to crash.

I did have a file copy running when plasma crashed, but unsure if this would have been picked up by my session, hence the possible duplicate.

The crash can be reproduced every time.
