Version: unspecified (using Devel) OS: Linux Kwin uses too less or no blur in plasma. No blur example: http://img821.imageshack.us/img821/4446/kwinbug.png In this example the text of the "available devices" pop-up is nearly unreadable because no blur is used. Too less blur example: http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/7008/kwinblurbug2.png In some cases blur is used but only under the text and not in the whole pop-up, which is IMO still too hard to read. Both problems affect nearly every pop-up/menu thing in plasma. This bug can of course also be seen as too much transparency being used, no transparency (as in 4.4 or with the oxygen theme) would fix the problem. Strangely disabling the transparency effect in kwin has no effect on this behavior. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: No blur example: Open up the "available devices" menu in the system tray. Too less blur example: play a song in Amarok and hover over the Amarok tray icon. But it actually happens with nearly every pop-up in plasma, so it's quite easy to reproduce. Actual Results: No blur or too less is used and the text is unreadable in some cases. (see my screenshots) Expected Results: Blur should be used to make the text more readable. Using Kubuntu 10.4 with KDE 4.5 beta 2.

What's duplicate about this? I don't see any match between this bug and bug 240956 And I agree with this but. More blur is needed.
blurring doesn't take place at all on the linked shots*, presumingly for the intel fbo issue. (please note if this happens to you on another kind of GPU) *the white halo around the text is no blurring but just - a halo.

I thought this bug wasn't a duplicate of 240956 because the white halo seemed like blur to me. I'm using an RadeonHD 3200 IGP with the open source drivers. Starting Kwin from commandline gives the same error as reported in bug 240956. I have added glxinfo as attachment, can you check whether it should support blur or not? note: Disabling the transparency effect in the desktop effects menu has no effect, is this also a bug?
> I have added glxinfo as attachment, can you check whether it should support > blur or not? Yes it should blur. > > note: > Disabling the transparency effect in the desktop effects menu has no > effect, is this also a bug? No this is intended. The Translucency effect does not influence the popups.
