(screenshot attached) When closing the window, plasma is shut down. Other links/icons don't show that problem. Reproducible: Always Actual Results: an empty window appears Expected Results: no window should appear
Update: When closing skype, the window generated by plasma disappears.

Aaron, are you sure this is the same as bug 237154? I only saw that problem right after I migrated to 4.4.80 (the other bug talks about 4.4.3), furthermore I don't get the empty window after startup but only if I start skype.
Ok, I am on Fedora-13 with all updates + KDE-4.4.80, and in bug bug 237154 it is mentioned updating GTK + kde fixes the problem. I still experience it, and skype is a QT app, so I really don't believe this is a dup.
"furthermore I don't get the empty window after startup but only if I start skype." the trigger is an app that registers a system tray icon. apparently something goes rather wrong in certain cases and this alien window appears as a result and plasma-desktop goes into a precarious state. this can happen either on start (due to an auto-started or session restored app putting such an icon in the tray) or after start when the user starts an app that does that. it is the same bug, and it's been reported a few times.
oh wow, and you un-duped it. please do not do that. i get emailed your comments even on closed reports and can decide to re-open or not. when you do so, you're just guessing and when people do that it often ends up wasting my time. just comment on the reports, we (those triaging and fixing issues) will manage them. thanks.

the said little window is a systray icon, that for some reason doesn't get embedded. i've seen it a couple of time with Qt 4.7 what version of Qt do you have?
You're right, I have a qt-4.7 prerelease. However the skype icon is successfully embedded in systray.
I have same problem. Not with skype, but with Kontact, KMail, Agregator, ... If I quit Kontact, this small window is closed. Icons in systray is ok and works too. I have Kubuntu lucid, Qt 4.7 and KDE 4.4.80

with a recent Qt 4.7 checkout from origin/4.7 doesn't seem to happen anymore. it is so hopefully an upstream and fixed issue, for everybdy that is having this problem please try with Qt either from git or 4.7 final (or an rc more recent than this message) as soon gets released
