Version: unspecified (using KDE 4.4.3) OS: Linux KDE misuses the Cancel Icon (white x in red circle on the default theme) for close-buttons at several locations. This gives the user the impression, closing will revert his changes, at places where closing does not (and should not!) revert the changes. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: use KDE Actual Results: a cancel icon is used for close-buttons Expected Results: a close icon should be used for close buttons consitently in every application there should be some design-guidelines, and the developers of popular kde applications should be informed of the guidelines
I fear you have to report the bug for each application where you see the wrong icon.
The white x in the red circle is indeed the correct close icon. The cancel icon is a red circle with one red line through it.
Okay. Then i think the default icon-set is misleading. My association with this icon is cancel. i think this may be, because windows uses this icon for error-messages. try images.google.com for "error message", they mostly use this icon for error and a yellow triangle with a ! for warning.
