Thanks for the bug reports! I have not seen this kind of crash so far in current trunk.

It seems that you're using the Icons View. Is "Show in Groups" enabled? What do you sort/group the items by?

If I understand correctly, Dolphin crashes every time you enter a particular directory, right? It might help if you could identify what is special about the directory where it crashes.

to all of Ur questions.. Yes

it ist icons, is shown in groups, and it happens at any directory-change-attempt.

initally, i believed it would happen anytime, i had my external driver mounted. but now i am not sure about any connection with this. it happens anyway. :(

it happens always:

when i use the up arrow or any icon under the menuebar 
when i kick on a directory grouped under "spaces"

it doesnt happen everytime:

whenever i simply klick on the directory icons or files

Thanks for the quick response! Unfortunately, I'm still unable to reproduce :-(

Some more questions that might lead us to the cause of the problem:

1. What do you sort the items by (look at the "View->Sort By" menu)?

2. Is Nepomuk enabled? If yes, could you try to disable it in the System Settings and check if that makes the crash go away?

3. Could you start Dolphin from a Konsole (make sure you close all Dolphin windows first) with "dolphin --nofork", then reproduce the crash and paste or attach the output in Konsole here?

absolutely impossible to keep the dolphin swimming, while going back anyhow to my own home directory

as soon as i go back there, it crashes.. to remind U.. my home/manu is on an encrypted partition on this kernel

Thanks for the update and sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately, I'm still unable to reproduce and have no idea what could cause this crash.

@Peter: do you have an idea? Maybe a Valgrind log could help?

i made something today, that will probably be of interest to U

i edited the .directory file on my home directory which was cracking
down any time.. it had a sort and an other line like range or list=2
(forgot. sorry) i erased those 2 lines under [Dolphin] and now in
the .directory files it is only written

I can confirm, that removing the sort-line from the .directory file makes the crashes go away - even though the .directory file is in the root of my home-directory and the crashes always occurred while accessing the usb-stick.
(I also recently upgraded to opensuse 11.3, so that might have an influence also.

Thanks for the new information. I've played around with the sorting settings (such that additional lines are added to the .directory file), but I'm still unable to reproduce (KDE SC 4.4.4, Opensuse 11.2).

If anyone can still reproduce this issue in a particular directory, please backup the .directory file of that directory, try if removing lines from that file helps and attach the original file here if the crashing stops. Thanks.
