Last night was too much hell. I tried to repair kdmrc by hand using Nano. Unfortunately, my butter fingers got the best of me.

The answer was to try to install a copy of Kwrite keyed to the root user. I had just isolated the entry I wanted and pressed the button to copy it into clipboard, when this crash occurred. To this minute, I actually have no idea of whether the entry actually made it into the clipboard or not -- I've been too busy doing the system work involved in getting this bug report ready for you. :/
