Description Tomas Pospisek 2010-05-22 18:39:34 UTC
Version: (using KDE 4.4.2)
OS: Linux
Installed from: Ubuntu Packages

How to reproduce?

- A week ago I upgraded Ubuntu (and this KDE) from Karmic to Lucid

- I am not using korganizer with akonadi, but using local ics files *exclusively*

- Two days ago while starting kaddressbook in Lucid for the first tim, akonadi's and nepomuk's two dozen processes broke loose swamping my console with log messages and maxing out my CPU at 100% thus I killed all that smelled like akonadi and nepomuk (kill -TERM; sleep ...; kill -9) and deinstalled nepomuk-virtuoso and kaddressbook

- Meanwhile I had to restart my laptop, since Ubuntu's suspend currently crashes my laptop - thus I was not in the same session anymore as when I "had to" kill akonadi

- Yesterday I merged an external MacOS ICS Calendar into mine

- It went OK, except for the fact, that iCal's recurring Events don't seem to have explicitly associated weekdays with them so korganizer complained when pressing OK, so I had to add them

- Then once again suspended my laptop crashed my system

- And today I have a fresh new, empty calendar

I do not know which event lead to killing the calendar, however I do not feel that deleting my calendar is in any way acceptable under any circumstances. If I can not trust korganizer, then I'd rather start using a paper agenda or a plain text file again.

It may be that this bug is related to #209249 [0].

General note about my feeling of KDE today:

Once I was using KDE as my Desktop. I switched to Gnome to have a look, but was still using plenty KDE apps. I am regularily using kaddressbook, klipper, korganizer, akregator and kwallet.

kaddressbook had to go, because I will not bear two dozens processes running amok just because I want to see a *simple* addressbook!

kwallet doesn't start any more [1].

akregator has repeatedly erased all articles from my RSS feeds.

And now korganizer ate my calendar.

So the last app remaining is klipper.

I hear that by now the 4.x version of KDE has stabilized. Well not for me. To me it feels like it's dying. I am not able to use any of KDEs apps any more, even though I would very much like to. Maybe I the only one, but to me the alarms are very loud. What's going wrong here?

Comment 1 Tomas Pospisek 2010-06-01 22:06:52 UTC
This problem might be caused by a bad filesystem setup - see:

   http://bugs.debian.org/582888

and thus I'm closing this bug.

Thanks,
